What Started as a Daily Struggle Became an Award-Winning Mission

There was a time when brushing teeth felt impossible in our home.

Not because anyone was being “difficult,” but because sensory overwhelm can turn even the simplest daily routines into exhausting battles.

The noise.
The texture.
The feeling.
The resistance.
The tears.

For so many families, oral care isn’t a quick two-minute task. It can be one of the most stressful parts of the day.

And that’s exactly why Sensory Shine was created.

We knew there had to be better, more inclusive solutions for people who struggle with traditional oral care routines, not just for autistic children, but for teens, adults, people with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, anxiety around brushing, mobility difficulties, and those recovering from medical or dental challenges too.

What started as lived experience at home slowly became something much bigger.

This year, Sensory Shine was honoured at the Disability Smart Impact Awards 2026, receiving recognition in the Product Design category for inclusive innovation.

Standing there at the awards ceremony was an emotional moment we’ll never forget.

Because this recognition isn’t just about a product.

It’s about awareness finally growing around the reality that inclusive hygiene matters.

It’s about recognising that millions of people are still being overlooked by products that were never designed with different needs in mind.

And it’s about showing families that support exists.

At Sensory Shine, our mission has always been simple:

To help make oral care routines feel more accessible, more comfortable, and less overwhelming.
